I kept hearing about fire at Trout Lake on Sundays, with a DJ, but I simply never made it out - busy or into other things, or just not up for a fiery outing once Sunday rolled around. Finally, though, I decided to go out and maybe join in..... it has been three or four years since I spun fire for the very first time at Trout Lake on a Wednesday, and I was excited to return.
Nothing. No one. A few lone souls walking their dogs. Actually, someone else did show up, also after having been gone for a number of years, also confused by the sudden silence. I kept looking across the lake to see if the fire had perhaps moved to the other side. No luck. I was the lone poi spinner in the night.
I know about Thursdays. Eventually I'll make it out to Kits Beach again. But what about Trout Lake? Are Wednesdays finished too? I'd even love a spot to gather in the evening and spin and practice unlit. I miss the community side of poi and other flowtoys. I used to go on Saturdays to Robson Square, but my weekends have gotten busy!
Anyway, I've seen the interest expressed in other threads as well. I'm curious to know if anyone has anything planned.....

Re: Sunday at Trout Lake
05/30That's sad to hear that there isn't anything on Sundays now....
Trout Lake....the issue is that it's now a 'known' spot for fire spinners---which is good....but...(I have heard this thru the grapevine so don't quote me on it...just correct me tee hee) a few years ago there was a fire jam happening, a park ranger came round to check it out and maybe tell them to keep it down a bit as some neighbours had complained....and someone got kinda mouthy with the park ranger...it all went down hill from there.
In all the years of Trout Lake jams happening there'd never been any real issue with the authorities because everyone was always pretty respectful. If it was too loud, they kept it down and were nice about it. Sadly it only takes one time to screw things up.
I went to a jam 'post' this incident and it too was being shut down by the police shortly after it began.
So yeah.
You could try again though...post it out here and see if anyone comes. There's a conscious community here in Vancouver . . . we may just have to re pave the road again for Trout Lake really is the best place to spin!

Re: Sunday at Trout Lake
06/05I'm going to be moving to Vancouver end of next month/beginning of August. Are there regular meets/burns? When and where are they? -

06/05Random posts out generally if there'll be a jam at Kits Beach on Thursday nights. IT's posted in here somewhere generally....

Re: Sunday at Trout Lake
06/07Hi,
Myself and my friend are looking for other spinners to meet up and practise with.
We too have gone to Trout a couple of times and found no one there.
IF anyone here is interested in meeting up at Trout...let me know! :) -

Re: Sunday at Trout Lake
08/04I know this was a while ago, but is this or anything like it going to be a regular thing? I'm kinda new to this zone, but it would be great if there was a regular weekly (or even bi-weekly) meetup where people could jam and learn new things. With regular sessions everyone would get to know people better as well.
Apparently Vancouver has one of the biggest fire arts communities in the world (who knew!) bigger even than san fransisco or new orleans, so it's a bummer to see this epicenter of talent disintegrate :( -

Re: Sunday at Trout Lake
08/12It's all starting to happen again! Tuesdays and Thursdays at Trout Lake - not totally regular, but almost!
Saturdays at 2 pm at the art gallery downtown - lots of hoopers, poi spinners, and jugglers.
And if you just let people know you want to spin, they'll often be glad to meet up and work on stuff! Post a note on here or on Vancouver Poi when you plan on practicing in a park somewhere, and someone (like me!) might just want to join you!
Take care!
David
